This ONE-DAY workshop will offer the opportunity to discuss the current state‑of‑the‑art of OPU and ICSI in mares. Experts in the field will give short presentations on specific parts of this technique, followed by highly interactive discussions. This workshop is exclusively available for veterinarians with working knowledge and experience in OPU.

This workshop will offer the perfect forum to discuss the latest techniques for OPU, oocyte searching, preparation and transport of oocytes as well as sedation and analgesia, and post-procedure management of the donor mare. The current state of the ICSI technique, efficiency and perspectives for the future will also be discussed. In addition, societal issues will addressed including the ethical considerations, social license, effect on the gene pool, discomfort during and after the procedure, health and risks for the newborn foal, athletic potential and long-term health issues. Experts in the OPU technique, in pain management, performance potential of ICSI foals and ethics will be invited to share their insights during this forum. Participants will be encouraged to sent in questions and cases before the workshop.

9 October 2024. Registration starts at 9:30, workshops start at 10:00 and end at 17:00. A lunch buffet and hot and cold beverages during breaks are included in the registration fee.

Registration

The course is limited to veterinarians who are part of an active, licensed OPU team and have pre-existing clinical experience with OPU in mares. Registration fee includes lunch and coffee breaks. Participants can purchase access to the video recordings of all pre-symposium workshops (except the ET and Semen Handling courses). Videos can be viewed online for three months after the ESER symposium. To enroll in this workshop, participants must be registered delegates for the ESER 2024 Symposium.
